lessons learned

okay so today it hit me to write---i am at the moment going back to my inspired or just that push to write only times----

i thought i might share with you, some of the things i have learned or observed over my busy weekend----lately i have been looking at life more that way--like i want to take away something from most of it--we'll see, how long that lasts

i have re-learned that people don't go for the fruits and veggies too much, unless you don't have any other food----but you know what---i put colored, and shaped marshmallows with my red and green grapes and pineapple---i think if people had tried that combo, especially with the cream cheese dip, they would have loved them---i did-- and i am not too much of a fruit person----as for the veggies, which by the way, i have always hated that word, "veggies"--but now i find it is comfortable to use---anyway---people do love the snap peas--which my veggie tray had---but those things, are expensive----i do share one last thing with you about the veggie tray--i had planned to remove all of it and display it in these adorable little green tub like things, i believe people would have been attracted by that--

i learned, i think, this weekend---although, as i write this, i have to be honest, i will learn this one over and over again---that only you can make decisions, about yourself and what you can and cannot do and you must let it go

okay, this is now in theory, but i am still gonna list it---people don't really care much, how your house looks--certainly not as much as you do---and if they do, you aren't going know what they say, probably

cheese balls are coming back, in a big way---but don't forget to put the knife out with it-

don't ever assume, you know how your kids will react to things, or what they are feeling and never underestimate, their love for their siblings---i know, big shock to me too

even if you think something makes you look fatter, when people say it doesn't, go ahead and wear it---no one should be relegated to black pants and black tops, all the time

people love m&ms-----

and this is strictly personal---go on and make those darling little shot cups of mini cheese cakes---people are impressed by them--which hey, that's what you are going for right---bad thing, you will have a lot left over--good thing, you will have a lot left over---

  1. I love this post, Lynn—so many great pieces of wisdom! Speaking of cheese balls, my three-year-old saw one in the grocery store yesterday and wanted me to buy it. I love those things, but alas, I'm dieting and had to refuse. Oh, well... LOL

Have a great Thursday, friend. ☺

  2. haha, that's funny---thanks dana, you too :)

  3. You are right. People do like M&M's. And they will disappear while the celery sticks remain. Veggies are what food eats.

  4. My daughter is the person over there hovering around the vegetable tray eating all the peppers.

  5. People are picky. Some don't eat anything that doesn't look like what Mom made. I'm not one for spicy, pepper jams, or garlic infused dips, but some like them. I am one of those who do go for the veggies and fruit and avoid the chips and 'extra' foods (like marshmallows). But if you're going for a new taste sensation, then fruit and marshmallow in one bite may be a good thing.

Sounds like you've been entertaining and evaluating the results. . .

  6. yeah like i said unfortunately i am not too much of a fruit person, but with the grapes being a little sour, the marshmallows added a great flavor---yeah, i am glad it is over--but a part of me does like to entertain :)

  7. I'm trying to eat more veggies. The older I get I'm really concerned with what's good for all of us. I have to beg for hubby to eat veggies. Son likes a few, but doesn't eat enough. If we have m&m's in the house...gone in a day! lol
    Love your thoughts today.:)
    hugs,
    Marie

  8. CHEESE BALLS!!! I grew up on those things--thanks to my older brother. (I'm not complaining.)

LOL. Veggies. It's incredible the trigger words in people's vocabularies. Mine is cucumbers. *shudders* Evil incarnate...

    1. haha--did you and your brother fight over the cheese balls, crystal!--yep i know i still hate it when my husband shortens names of food, like lopes for cantaloupes!

  9. My mother made the most amazing 'ambrosia salad' with mandarin oranges, pineapple, little marshmallows, coconut, whipped cream, cream cheese. Whatever health-consciousness there might be was obliterated by the rest. Oh, it was something else.

    Good memories.

  10. I agree! People usually don't care what you serve, as long as it's free for them. I have thrown a lot of parties the past few years and find this to be very true!

My mother in law has a messy home and doesn't bother cleaning it before visitors come over. My own home irritates me when it is dirty. However, being in her when it hasn't been cleaned does not bother me at all. I think we spend too much time worrying about what others think and less time living. It should definitely be the other way around.

  12. My sister-in-law once spot cleaned my house before the rest of the guests arrived. Sadly she never did it again. I wonder if the veggie tray wasn't up to standards.

  13. I'm trying really hard to learn that I can only make decisions for myself and that the decisions made by others, especially my grown kids, I can't keep allowing myself to feel responsible for. Big learning process for me!

  14. Honey, if you put out peanut M&Ms I will not care how many cobwebs you have or how much I'm sticking to your kitchen floor.

I hosted a party a few weekends back, not ONE person set foot in my house. We had the whole thing outside. Bonus, I had a very clean house. Downside... no one could witness it.

  15. Im always amazed when I go to other people's homes what they think is a messs. I guess I just dont notice. Im hoping they dont when they come to my place. We spend far too much time worrying about what other people are thinking of us...if we only knew how infrequently they were thinking stuff about us(negative or otherwise) we'd be insulted by that!

  16. I'm one of those who does like the veggies and dips! However, I'd be more than happy to get stuck into the M&M's too!

  17. Well said and observed Linda. There's an old saying in Yorkshire, England 'Apple pie without the cheese is like a kiss without the squeeze!'. Any mix in food is good if it's enjoyed. Here in Scotland we've got a reputation for fatty foods, we invented the fried Mars Bar. So maybe a fried mars bar would be good with pineapple chunks !

  18. I love M & Ms, and I'd eat fruit and veggies when they're fresh (raw veggies if they come with some dip).

And I think we should always wear whatever we want!

    Have a great weekend. =)

  19. Focusing on what you take away from life in general is a very cool way to live in the moment, methinks.

    2. Hi Lynn, Thanks for sharing your lessons with us. I've recently become vegan, so the veggie tray would not have been wasted on me, LOL.

  21. Lynn, I am the best guest because I know how much work it is. I worry too much if I have people over and because we have an open kitchen, our guests talk to me while I am trying to cook. It doesn't work. Ah for the days of separate kitchens where no one sees you accidentally drop food on the floor. I will be your guest anytime :).

    1. haha that can be a problem--but with me--people gravitate to the kitchen anyway--i secretly don't mind ;)
