I am sitting taking a break from laundry-
We are expected to get 6--12 inches of the four letter white word today--
A few flakes have shown up - even a little early -
I search the branches visible through the left front panes- hoping to spot that gorgeous red cardinal I saw yesterday- oh how I would enjoy the sight of a woodpecker
The other day while bringing groceries in- I heard the rattling sound of a woodpecker I was sure-- I stood on the porch struggling to find the creature creating the amazing beat--seldom would I linger in the frigid temps -I gave up-but I knew he was there
There are not many things I love or have a slight fondness for-concerning winter
The grays are empty and echoing -we huddle like bears-wishing to sleep it gone
Oh for that book one can't put aside-seems they are a dying breed
And so when I dare to open up my heart to the possibility that winter can be my friend-my lonely unwelcome needy intrusive friend -I recall the danger of inviting them in-for they certainly over stay their tolerability
The snow is getting old, isn't it.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy for the feeders in the front yard. I have three sorts of woodpeckers, and and all the others, too. The birds must eat their own weight each day to survive the night. I watched the poor things tossed by the wind in the weekend storm and wonder where they shelter. I guess in the pine woods across the road.
Well I should confess we having had any snow to speak of-just hate any!--wow three kinds-how cool!!
ReplyDeleteWe are settling in for another 3-6 tomorrow am, which is like a dusting comparative to what we've had. I cleared the paths today from the 16 we got yesterday, then went on the roof, cleared the 18 that was up there four feet from the edge, and then (of course)had to clear the paths again. *sigh* I love the seasons, that's why I live here, but I have had enough. Feeling your pain darlin'... feeling your pain.
ReplyDeleteWell now I feel a little selfish juli/my goodness you have really had enough!!!
ReplyDeleteCome visit... I have pictures up. it will make you feel grateful!

Spring is coming... spring is coming. :)
I will-I checked you yesterday and didn't see them :)
ReplyDeleteYou have had some tough stuff to deal with this winter. I haven't been here for a bit. Hope and pray that you are soon into spring and the snow won't have to be a stand-in friend...those birds are just hovering on the edge of winter...it will be good to hear and see them again!
ReplyDeleteBTW - read your post about the owl. I have a similar one about a seagull...
And I have a couple of dreams that told me what to expect. I treasure the things God lets me see. But as with you, I never know when that will be.
Hi Donna that's pretty cool about the seagull dreams--I haven't been around much these days either/good to hear from you :)
DeleteHa! I started to write a spring poem - just for you to bask in - but it ended up being another winter one (with spring mentioned)
DeleteActually the seagull was one that showed up the morning my mom died, and then after that at times when others passed unexpectedly. It seems to be over, but when I see one now, it reminds me. Check tomorrow for the "You Think You Want Spring" poem - I'll post it on my page. More snow tonight - maybe 6"-10". Yea.
That gives me chills about the seagull- I will look forward to your next poem- thanks Donna :)

DeleteWe got 14 inches of snow where I live on Monday, and as weird as it sounds I absolutely love it!! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Lynn, I just about love all our seasons apart from when it's dull and drizzling persistently. Ice makes such beautiful creations.
ReplyDeleteI agree about the book though, authors nowadays don't seem to keep us in suspense any more.
Winter is my least favorite as well. And February is finally over, though the first 2 weeks were actually unusually mild. I'm thankful for the snow for the moisture. Now I'll wish for spring rains.
