i had a terrible time deciding what to call this post

monday monday---hmmmmm---but here i am, writing cause i feel like it---

i just finished making mexican spaghetti---not too sure if i think it has enough flavor--or cheese---i don't think it can ever have the right amount of cheese for me-----

i still struggle with the love of cooking and the crazy part i have shared with you all---at least i haven't had any dreams that ended up on paula deen's show, in a while-------

sometimes i wonder if i have a form of ocd----not to minimize those who suffer dearly with it---but i think i have some sort of issue with choices---

which leads me to share something i heard on the "today" show this morning----in a segment about inspiring seniors--this one man said that "it is better to be decisive than right"----boy that rang true to me----i  immediately called frank to share this new treasured insight---

i mean if ya keep waiting and deliberating too long, sometimes the option or decision is no longer there or relevant-----sometimes we just have to pray--wait a bit---and make up our freaking minds----

life is so full of choices that don't seem to matter and maybe some of them don't---but i don't believe we are gonna get zapped if we choose the wrong door once in a while---

anyway--i thought it was a great idea---and i am going with it---and it's funny, except for the grocery, menu, and cooking thing, i am pretty decisive---probably more than the average person----and yeah lots of not so wonderful turns occasionally----

the other piece of advice on the show today was--"to change one thing"---i thought it was a great theory---

so i changed a couple of things this morning----i made mexican spaghetti instead of regular and i didn't label in my mind each piece of clothing as i did the laundry----if you are not a usual reader of my blog, you may not get some of this stuff---hmmmm  i don't know, i know it was on one of the a-z blogs, where i stupidly admit my idiosyncrasies a bit-----

i am gonna change it up a tad also today and end with a piece of my own original advice----always buy more cheese than you think you will need and never buy cheap aluminum foil--

  1. I often struggle with decisiveness although I'm much better than I used to be. My husband is a very decisive person so that helps.

Oh, I am with you on cheap foil : )

  2. frank is learning to be a little more decisive---yep, that cheap foil thing only costs you more in the end--thanks joyce :)

  3. I'm usually a very decisive person. When faced with a choice, I think about it a couple of hours, or days if it's a big one, and then made up my mind. Once I've made up my mind, I'm like a horse charging to get to the end line. Now, I've found that when something scares me, I'll become very doubtful and coming up with a decision is a real struggle. Even once I've decided one way or the other, often times I question that decision and keep stalling until it is too late and no longer relevant... I know I have to change that and try a few things that scare me, so this year I'm planning to try at least a couple... will see how that goes...

  5. ...Make up your freaking mind...How many times have I said that to the husband?! That man misses every single opportunity that ever comes his way. Drives me NUTS! Like my grandmother used to say, "Poop or get off the pot." LOL

    1. frank has a little trouble in that area also----it's like i tell him--just make a decision, it doesn't mean i won't change it haha--cute grandma :)

  6. well..you can buy cheap aluminum foil if your kids use it to make shields and boats and balls....
I take solace knowing most of my decisions, most, so not things like vows, are reversible...gives me courage to try new things and not be afraid..because if I don't like the decision i change it.

    1. my problem with the cheap stuff, is it is always messing up and i can't get any of it off or if it does come off, it is all in little pieces---i had to get robyn to go next door today and borrow some haha---i know--it does take courage to try new stuff especially when we aren't afraid to fail--thanks annmarie and congrats again!!!!

  7. I learned the foil lesson the hard way while camping. I agree, never buy the cheap stuff. Hmmm, Mexican spaghetti, that sounds interesting.

    1. haha--you surely need the good foil for camping----sorry to tell you, i don't think the mexican spaghetti was good--frank liked it though, jenn :)

  11. I love and totally agree with your two pieces of advice. Especially the cheese part. I begin to panic if I don't have at least one unopened block of cheddar in the fridge.

  15. Excellent advice, people always eat more cheese than you think they will, especially with wine. Also, cheap foil tears easily.

Thanks for dropping by my blog Lynn!

  19. That Mexican spaghetti sounds delicious! What I've found with cooking, recipes, etc., is to have a lot of recipes to choose from and then plan the week ahead with menus; helps that part. Hubby does the cooking here so I'm saved from that part (I come up with the ideas, he cooks them, it works :)

My son had a girlfriend once who liked her cheese, LOL. She lived with us for six months (long story, but her mom kicked her out after her mom had stolen her identity and gotten a lot of credit in her name). Anyway, whenever we would make a new recipe, she would always say "I like it, but it could use a little more cheese".

I think we all have those decisions we regret, but I do agree with being decisive rather than afraid to make a decision or slow to make one.

may tomorrow be a good one!

  21. hate making dinners! my boys are too picky & love to complain. i dont aim to please them anymore (i say that but i cant help trying) making dinner is second to laundry for chores i dont like.

and can i quote you if i ever get around to publishing my lazy housewife book?

    ReplyDelete

    1. my kids weren't too picky when they were young---but ya know i don't think it matters whether you cook or not--cause back when my two oldest boys were growing up, i cooked dinner almost every night--now they like to tease me and say i never hardly cooked--like my mom used to get into it too--once i was making some dish that frank especially liked and i was talking to my mom on the phone, she asked--"why are you cooking, is it frank's birthday"--i get no respect haha---and by all means, i would be so honored for you to use any of my "wise" sayings tara ;)

  22. Loved the post, and have never heard of Mexican Spaghetti. :) Sounds delish though! Oh and I agree on the cheese and aluminum foil. :) Can't never have enough cheese, and the blasted holes in cheap foil on the grill!

    1. well you know it sounded good to me--but it is one of those dishes that will probably taste better the next day---if i made it again, i think i would use cheddar cheese instead of the mexican blend and more cottage cheese and more meat and taco seasoning and i think i might layer it more like a lasagna---haha thanks tmi huh ;)

  23. Wonderful advice--and it couldn't have come at a better time. :)

  24. I'm with you on the aluminum foil. The cheap stuff is crap. I never by cheap toilet paper, either. ;-) I love the insight here...just make a decision. I'm a firm believer that God can use all of our choices anyway. If something doesn't turn our right - in our view - we'll learn something from it, or God will reveal something to us. Wonderful post!

  29. I find that making a quick decision is sometimes the best one. If I think too long, I over think, then I make the wrong choice. I have never heard of mexican spaghetti. I will have to look for a recipe for that.

    Have a great day Lynn!

    1. i agree--sometimes a quick answer is the best one, if it seems right, right away!---we didn't like the spaghetti very much--i think next time i will add more cheeses, mostly cheddar--- more sauce--or substitute some of the tomato sauce with salsa- add stewed tomatoes--oh and i needed to add another taco seasoning packet----i had a lot left over theresa!

  32. I've never tried Mexican spaghetti. I've been cooking meals a lot lately, but I'm not sure I'll try that. My wife doesn't like many Mexican dishes and she's not the biggest fan of spaghetti. On the other hand though, if I made it she might like it--if she'd be willing to try it.

    1. well like i said, it wasn't very good--i would have to change it up quite a bit if i ever tried it again--now the mexican cornbread casserole was pretty good---but i would change that up a bit too--what have you been cooking arlee?:)

    2. I keep my meals pretty simple as my wife is not a particularly adventurous eater. I've been having chicken Caesar salad, baked tilapia, and carne asada a lot. Last week I fixed rice with red beans and smoked sausage and that was a hit with my wife as I expected it would be. Actually I could probably fix plain white rice every night and she'd be happy with that. I need a little more variety in my diet.

  34. I’ve heard that before about it being better to be decisive than right. I guess it is better to decide something than to be paralyzed by fear. I love that advice about changing one thing. One thing isn’t overwhelming, and if you change one thing every day, or even every week, that’s a lot of change over time. I love that. Thank you for sharing that. Any chance of you sharing the Mexican Spaghetti recipe? That sounds yummy.

  35. i think it is better to just go ahead and do something most of the time----haha yes i would be glad to give you the recipe, but i will tell you that we didn't like it much--i think i would tweak it a lot if i ever tried it again---of course i used spaghetti noodles--a large box and cooked them separate---l-lb of ground beef----1 package of taco seasonings--i would use more----i combined spaghetti sauce with mild salsa--i would probably use all salsa next time---cottage cheese--i think i would use cream cheese next time---i used cheddar--i can't remember if i used 1 bag or two but the more cheese the better---and you could use the mexican blended cheese---i topped it with tortilla chips, which didn't do well either---let me know if you try it :)
