the best of birthdays

today is my birthday--the rest of the week i am probably going to be pretty busy--especially since robyn's birthday is tomorrow!

i just missed posting and hearing from everyone--and this is not a shameless attempt to get birthday wishes!!

i would like you if you care to comment today to tell me about one of your favorite birthdays or the worse--and maybe the greatest gift you recieved--

okay surely i will tell you the greatest birthday i had was when i went into the hospital and robyn was born the next day---

but i would like to get a little materialistic on ya today and give frank a little credit--which i may have to take back, if today doesn't go too well--hahaha

on my 26th birthday, frank gave me a huge box--it was so heavy and i could not imagine what was in it----oh wait, if you are not familiar with frank and his gift giving prowess, than please refer back to the a-z challenge and look at letter "g"-----

well i opened it and still could not tell what it was, it was rounded and bronze and as i carefully took it out of the tissue paper, i started to recognize it---it was a baby's bust---

i could not believe what i was seeing---frank and i had recently visited our local art museum, which we used to do at least once a year--it is kinda my thing----back to the baby's bust----that day we had gone into the gift shop---which i love almost as much---well who am i kidding, more than the museum itself----

i had casually, i thought, commented how beautiful it was--and of course it resembled our babies---

it was a reproduction of an artist's rendition of his son------

i am still amazed how frank thought of it and made an extra trip to purchase this wonderful piece of art i had shown an interest in----and it was fifty dollars--which even today would be a lot of money for him to spend on one gift---

i still love it----and one side note that came back to me as i was writing this---when my mother saw this treasure frank had so lovingly given me, she said--"it's pretty, but don't ever get me anything like that"---we laughed and laughed

so that gift was probably the greatest tangible material gift frank ever gave me---i know, what about the spinning wheel---well that might have been, if he had thought about it on his own :)

  1. Happy birthday--and early birthday wishes to Robyn!

What a sweet gift Frank gave! That just proves that some men really do pay attention when we speak. ;)

I can't think of a favorite birthday or gift right now--it's still too early! :) My husband and I have birthdays that are only two days apart (well, he's 13 years older!). I just love being able to share that time with him and the kids. And we were married on my birthday, so that makes the celebration even more special.

  2. Happy Birthday! Happy, happy, happy birthday to you! My best birthday has definitely been this year's. I turned 30, and we decided to do a cookout; it wasn't until about a week after my birtday due to scheduling, but it was one of those perfect days, the kind you know you'll know you'll always remember and look back on fondly. The weather was fantastic, the cupcakes were perfect, the park wasn't too crowded, the burgers were amazing, and everyone seemed to have a really good time.

  3. Happy Birthday! My favorite gift happens to be from my Mom on my last birthday. She's in love with photo books and gave me one. She and I spent hours pouring over old photo's of my husband and I, piecing together like quilt pics and portions of letters and poems. I love the book, but just as much, love the time I spent, just me and my Mom!

  4. Happy Birthday. :) I was born on my grand dads birthday. My grand dad spoiled me rotten so as you may imagine I had cousin's who were haters for that. I always hated my birthday tho. Now that I am older I just hang a sign on that day that says, "Nothing to see here, just move along." :)

  5. Happy Birthday to you Lynn and early birthday wishes to Robyn! How wonderful your birthdays are so close together! What a thoughtful gift your hubby gave to you so many years ago; too funny though what your mom said, I can imagine the laughs!

My birthday is really close to Christmas, my mom though always made sure my day was not lost with Christmas preparations. I think the best gift was the effort she made to give me a birthday every year, homemade cake, presents, sometimes a party, in the midst of a busy time of year. Nowadays I just like to quietly move on the day the older I get.

    Enjoy!!!!

  6. Birthdays are odd things. As kid we had birthdays four times a year - I am 6 and a quarter or 7 and three quarters. Then in our teens they slow down to just two a year - I am 14 and a half or 17 and a half.

At some point they then slow down and eventually stop - I remember my mother being 39 for at least seven years. I swear if she was alive today I would be older than her by now.

    Many happy returns!

  7. Happy Birthday to you!!! I hope you have a great day. Such a sweet story about your most special gift. It's true what they say about the thought meaning more than the gift itself.
I can't think of any one special, special gift. Each birthday and gift seems special in it's own way.

  11. My husband's birthday was yesterday, and my daughter's was on the 4th, so May is a busy birthday month for us too. So I get to say "Happy Birthday" twice more...to you and Robyn! Our family used to gather at our house at birthday time and we'd have pizza delivered from the local Domino's. The last birthday at that house, when we called to order our pizza, the person said, "Wow, do you know you've ordered $1000 worth of pizza from us?" Guess we had a lot of birthdays there in 10 years!

My favorite birthday? My 50th--my daughter Erin threw me a Medieval banquet, with my m-in-law's help. Erin is a talented seamstress, specializing in Elizabethan costumes. It was an amazing evening.

  13. Happy Birthday! And Happy Birthday to Robyn tomorrow. That was a really nice present your husband got for you. How thoughtful! My favorite birthday was probably the one just after my son was born. I delivered him four days before my birthday. It was so nice to bring him home and celebrate my birthday with him.

  16. Happy Birthday to you and Robyn.

After my son was born I realized how little presents mean to me, as I had all that I would ever really need. Kids put things into perspective I think.

I hope that your day is filled with family and friends and the laughs don't stop!

  17. Happy Birthday!

My favorite was probably my 30th. I had just bought myself my first home a few months prior, my sister took me to Lion King at the Opera house, my mom hired a car to bring me into the city and while we were watching the performance, the driver swung over to Mike's pastries and bought us a bunch of cakes and treats to enjoy on the way home. Then that weekend, Tony (we were just friends at the time) took me to the casino for three days... took in a concert and just had a wonderful time together.

We are still planning my 40th... should be fantastic. :)

  18. Happy Birthday Lynn! :) I have a sweet memory of my 10th birthday. My mom was brushing my hair and hugged me afterward. She told me ..."wow..you are getting so big!". She felt I was growing too fast. Of course I didn't realize how she felt until I had my own children. They are going to turn 21 and 14 this summer!

  20. Dropping by late, Lynn, but Happy Birthday, belatedly.

My fave gift from hubby was my original Nikon, which I still have (it was my first SLR and it still works perfectly and takes beautiful shots). He also gave me an 1870s rocking chair. These hold a dear place in my heart, since it showed that he knew what would please me.

  22. Happy b-day Lynn and many more. I guess my best birthday was 15 when Dad got me a 250 Yamaha Enduro, I rode that motorcycle everywhere. It had an old licence plate whose registration sticker matched the color of the year I had it, made a couple trips to the city, never got caught, man I was bad 8-D

  23. Lynn, I love how you share your heart on your blog, giving us a little glimpse of the Lynn inside.
As strange as it may seem, one birthday that stands out is my 12th. My Granny invited me to supper at her favorite place--Meloni's Bar and Grill. It was a ruse to get me out of the house so my parents could set up a surprise party, but I loved the time just Granny and I spent together.
    Blessings on your weekend!

  25. Happy birthday for the other day!

I've had many lovely birthdays, my favourite way to spend it is with my little family, drinking tea, eating cake and having a relaxing day together. My best gift was of course my dog, Mackie, who was given to me by my mother just before I turned 18. I had been going through a rough time, a friend had died and I was feeling very low. She told me that Mackie would take care of me, share my secrets and be by my side. It seems Mackie understood that because she's a very caring little dog :)

I hope you had a lovely day! I agree with Pam's comment - I love how friendly your blog is, how you share stories with us in the way that you do. It's lovely to come here and read what you have to say :)
