i just got back from a trip to the "goodwill" store----i have stuff i need to take up there later this week to donate---
i don't usually buy much from there--except for books and the occasional tea-cup---once in a while, robyn will look for a vintage piece of clothing, for her fashion blog she does----she hasn't been keeping up with it of late, so today she was on the prowl for the perfect fashion statement---
she found a couple of really cute sweaters and a beautiful evening gown----she paid for it and it all came to $14!
i also found a messenger bag for frank---i had thought of getting him one on father's day and then his birthday---but everywhere i looked, that i thought would have them, didn't---so today i saw a "perry ellis" bag for $5---i think it is a little dated but, hey when i googled older bags, they go for a lot more than new ones----now if i can get him to throw out his horrible bag he carries now--
his birthday yesterday went well--he had a lot of people text him and call, wishing him a happy birthday---
i told him next year we are doing his celebration on his actual day----this year, poor robyn ended up making him 3 cakes (remember the cherry cake mistake--so had to use the favorite carrot cake)-----it's all good, i guess he is worth it----but kids ya better start clearing your calendars for next year------turns out, they all could have made it last night anyway----
i invited my dad last week and last night--but he wasn't feeling like coming out-----he's doing fairly well, but i think it is hitting him, that it will soon be a year since mom passed away----
since i wrote about my darling mannequin boy, i have taken a picture of him, which i will post here---
oh and any of you, looking to find something very inexpensive for young kids to do, even inside----on frank's birthday thing---i bought a few toys for the grand-kids to share and play with while they were here-----the biggest hit (and next time i will get at least 4) was a plastic fishing pole with a few sea creatures to catch---i will post the pic for ya----
oh btw--the tire was able to be plugged, which has kinda freaked me out even more---but frank is a teeny bit stubborn so i think i will have to deal with it- unless i wanna sneak and take it in myself---everyone including my dad, who was the owner of his own gas station and a mechanic for years---says plugging, even from the outside is just fine------but i am not so sure my dad's blessing is much of a comfort as he did wonderful work for his clients, but mom always complained how he fixed our cars with duct tape and coat-hangers----ewwwww i think i might have married my dad----
well i wanted robyn to try on her dress and let you guys see it, but she won't--i think she is saving it for her fashion blog---------
totally random---but robyn thinks she and i should go take a pottery class-----she says to me today--and i quote--"hey mom, what if you and i become all artsy"--------gotta love her
It's amazing what you find at goodwill sometimes.
ReplyDeleteit truly is--this dress robyn found today is gorgeous--beading and ribbon and the main part of the dress is silk! thanks miranda :)
Deletegoodwill hunting - - cute :)
ReplyDeleteyeah it just came to me haha thanks judy ;)
DeleteSounds like you did pretty well on the goodwill hunting. I am frugal and thrifty myself. Love the little Thrift stores and I feel as if not only am I getting a very good bargain, I am helping a small local business person. :)
ReplyDeletei know--and our goodwill stores employ special needs people including young people doing community service--thanks girl :)
DeleteI like hunting around in these places, I quite like the thrill that i might discover something I really need or want...even though I am supposed to be de-junking at home!
ReplyDeletehaha i know what you mean--but i tell myself, hey if i get rid of 5 items or more, then i can get 1 new (old) one--thanks maria :)
DeleteWe call them Charity Shops here but I like your name better. I have donated and bought from these stores and have even - I suspect - even bought back things I donated :S
ReplyDeletehaha i know---sometimes when i will throw some of frank's stuff out--he will end up seeing it in the goodwill---but as of yet i don't think he has bought any back! thanks jp :)
DeleteI haven't been to goodwill for a while. I used to go with my kids when they had to dress in costume for one thing or another at school. Great places to get long dresses.
ReplyDeleteLike the messenger bag.
it is a good place to find unusual items---thanks, frank did like it and says he will throw his older one out! thanks susan :)
DeleteThat Mannequinn boy is really cute! A pottery class with your daughter would be fun!
ReplyDeleteisn't he sweet! yes i don't know how good i would be at it but i am willing to try--thanks brownie :)
DeleteOh the model baby is just like a little angel, like everyone wishes their baby was but never is :) Where ever did you buy it?
ReplyDeleteRobin cracks me up "all artsy" ! Do you think you will try the pottery?
he is a little angel huh--i don't own the little boy--it's in a store downtown---she is pretty funny sometimes--i may take a class, if i can find a inexpensive one nearby --thanks jenny :)
DeleteCreating something useful or beautiful with your own hands is very satisfying. The last creative class I took used liquid stone, cotton fabric and heavy wire frames to create garden or art sculptures.
ReplyDeleteGo for the pottery classes. Very low stress level. Always have enjoyed using the pottery wheel. (art BG)
my son had a pottery wheel when he was young--i could maybe see myself playing with clay haha--thanks d.g. :)
DeleteWe have this Goodwill warehouse place in Seattle somewhere that you can apparently find some great deals at... they sell by the pound? But the place kinda scares me so I'm afraid to go! lol
ReplyDeleteWe have a Value Village near us that I like more that is almost boutique-y. I'm always finding great clothing there...
sounds really interesting! thanks jo :)
DeleteYou can sometimes find great treasures at Goodwill. Those are fabulous photos! I really like that messenger bag. I need to get one for myself when I'm not carrying a diaper bag around! I took some stuff to a second-hand shop yesterday called Once Upon A Child. My son had fun playing there. I got some store credit for trading stuff in. So I didn't have to pay a dime getting my son some stuff he needed, plus a really great fireman's costume for him to dress up in. He was the star of the store when he modeled it!
ReplyDeleteawwww i bet he was the star--how cute! we have a once upon a child store where i live--thanks christine :)
DeleteFun post today! i like the title, too!
ReplyDeletei'm happy you liked it--thanks elaine:)
DeleteThat little boy manikin is precious, no wonder you want him!
ReplyDeleteawww i am glad you think he is cute--thanks bish :)
DeleteI haven't been to Goodwill in years, but I really miss the little resale store down the street, that closed after many years.
ReplyDeletei love second hand places and flea markets--thanks ms. a ;)
Deletewill do--thanks for stopping by mine, priscilla :)
ReplyDeleteThat mannequin boy does look like a real boy; honestly before I realized it was him, I thought it was one of your grands (or maybe I just need new glasses). I think one can find great deals at Goodwill if one is patient to go through stuff; ours tends to get a bit cluttered onthe floor with people dropping clothes, not picking them up, etc. that it gets a bit overwhelming for me to go in them at times.
ReplyDeletelooked like your hubby had a great birthday celebration!
betty
i know--some of the local thrift stores here are kinda messy but i was surprised yesterday when i went to goodwill, they had made a lot of changes and organized it much better!---i know he does look so very real---thanks betty :)
DeleteIt's the hunt which is so much fun. My forte is out annual garage sale where all three neighborhoods get together and have one over one weekend in May. This year I did so well but my prize was a telescope for my husband for Father's Day. I love the mannequin boy, what a great find.
ReplyDeletethe neighborhood thing sounds fun--and how cool--a telescope!--yeah he is a great find--but they won't sell him :(---thanks :)
DeleteI used to do the GS thing, but it gets harder with kids.
ReplyDeleteI haven't done the GR thing in some time. I should check it out. :)
oh i hear ya--yeah let me know if ya do--what treasures you find--thanks mina :)
DeleteGreat family photo, and I'm glad to finally see the mannequin boy! Sorry that you lost your mom, and I hope that your dad is doing better. Fortunately, you have such a fun daughter to always cheer you up! Julie
ReplyDeletethanks so much julie---haha she is a fun girl :)
DeleteHi Lynn -- it seems like every time I admire a jacket or outfit a friend is wearing, they tell me they found it at Goodwill or one of the other thrift shops in town. I'm going to take a shopping day soon and check them all out because I need something to wear to an August wedding.
ReplyDeleteyep that's a place you just might find it--like i said, robyn found a gorgeous gown---happy shopping--let me know if ya go and find something--happy weekend, patricia :)
DeleteOh, I love visiting goodwill. the other time I bought ten novels really cheap. Also got a nice jacket. Ooh, that fishing pole game is a great idea. It rained today like the whole day and yesterday, and my kids are bored.
ReplyDeletei know--i never hardly buy new books! yeah the fishing pole was a real winner---and they also loved putting the little spongy things that grow in water, in the other bucket---have a great weekend, cecilia :)
DeleteBrilliant title! I took 3 semesters of pottery in college - almost changed my major. I loved it! Made a lot of lopsided bowls and odd ball things - I wasn't very good - but I LOVED it. Go for it!
ReplyDeletewell unfortunately we looked around our area and the classes were too expensive--so maybe another class of some kind---glad you enjoyed your classes--thanks mare :)
