it's a girl

well it's over, it came and went-----

and i did not devulge the sex of the baby to my friend--not even to the baby's grandfather when he dropped by to leave the huge gift he had-- not even when he graciously gave me money to help with the shower--i took the much needed money haha but gave no baby info----not that he wasn't good at trying to make me slip up---i have known this man for over 35 years, and i think he talked to me more in that visit than in all of those years-

i think the shower turned out nice--i hope so-----i thought everything was pretty set in my mind as to what i was going to serve and so on----until

i started looking on google and youtube at actual showers---i was freaking----i  had to do more more more---

remember i told you about my sorta obsessive nature when it comes to entertaining----it came out big time--

but like i said--all in all i am happy with the way it went-----

the morning of the shower i was busy skewering cheese and veggies and thawing shrimp, when my friend calls me--the grand-mom to the baby to be-----well she wants to tell me something----i had frank answer her call and told him to just get her to tell him what she wanted---

she insists she has some news to tell me and wants to know if i have been on facebook yet---oh yeah--that's the first thing i did this morning, in between the stuffing and the chopping and assembling of tables-----i scream so she can hear---"i gotta talk to you later"------when she arrives at the shower, she proceeds to tell me how surprised she is at how i was yelling at frank--

first of all--her memory must have gone, because i tell  her i have yelled at frank many times in her presense---but i don't have time to tell her right then, that hey, i wasn't yelling at frank, i was yelling at you!

but the thing that really got me--when she arrives, frank is outside directing traffic and parking cars---(trying to look good)-----he tells me later that my friend runs up to him and says "frank, i can't believe how lynn was yelling at you, i have never heard her like that"-----okay, that's not a problem---

but you know what his answer to her was----"oh lynn gets like this all the time, she gets really stressed out"----doesn't even tell her, that i was only yelling so she could hear me-----sometimes, i just don't know about frank-----he didn't know why this should have bothered me-----although, when he reads this blog, he will sulk like a baby--------

always hard to write and keep it real-----

  1. This is a funny story..I haven't even had my first cup of coffee but you told the story so well that my un-caffinated brain could even picture it! One problem though, I was waiting to see what your friend just 'had' to tell you that was so important! xo

  3. Remember Lynn, men think like men, narrow focus. No details, just the facts m'am. I sympathize, I've been there.

Congrats on the new addition, thanks heavens for little girls as Maurice Chevalier once sang!

  7. Oh! Men sulk for the most insignificant things :-) It's what being a man is all about (I hope my husband doesn't read this). I bet the baby shower went well.

  10. I am not good at keep those types of secrets, so good for you for not letting it out of the bag!

As far as screaming goes, well it just isn't an event unless there is a little screaming going on...even if you weren't actually screaming.

  11. I'm sitting here grinning ear to ear. What a great thing to write a blog post about. I mean this is *exactly* where you can put your frustrations about such an incident.

You have a great sense of humor, Lynn. (If you'd just lower your voice, now and again. ;))

  13. Men are sort of used to us yelling at them, for various reasons. I'm surprised it even registers at my house!

Glad that that shower went well!

  15. I always stress out over entertaining, too, but probably from the completely opposite reason - you stress because you're good at it and want all the details to be right. I stress because I'm NOT good at it and just want to make it through, ha ha! So glad it went well. You are a blessing!

  16. Very funny posting. I think I am probably like that too- in the mornings before coffee and until that caffeine gets to my veins. :) I just went to my niece's wedding shower. My sister in law was freaking out and crazy over it worrying if it was going to turn out. The thing with events like that is, people are either going to love them or hate them. I thought it turned out great tho! Enjoyed reading your posting today

  17. Oh, Lynn. Those people must not be married. Or they are saints married to saints. A good vigorous yelling is therapeutic.

  19. Yelling at your husband is unusual?? As in unusual enough that someone says something? I must live on a different planet. Yelling on the phone at someone who can't hear and obviously has picked the wrong time to call? I guess I'm in a different galaxy, too...sigh. I'm type A. Bossy. I yell. People do things. Is that wrong? If so, um. Yeah. Still me.
In answer to your hyperlink question, I'd be glad to help. My email will show up if you get your comments or you can email me at tndowney (at) gmail (dot) com and I'll do my best to help you.
Thanks for opening up. I think it's a good thing!

  21. I thought I loved to entertain. the fancy appetizers. the house so clean it sparkled. but it seemed everyone IN the house suffered as i was preparing for these parties. i kept saying I wasn't stressed but I was. then i went to a party and the woman served goldfish. those crackers. and canned beer. and chips. and everyone was happy. that party changed my life. i do not stress any more when I host a party...what i make i enjoy and what they get they get...they all still keep coming so i know its not for the fancy food or because my house is clean, and really it is way more fun for everyone.

    1. i think if i had all the money i needed--it wouldn't stress me as much--but i get into finding new ways to serve or present things--it's kinda like how i love to find the perfect present for someone---some of the stress is fun---my husband was of course just saying what he thought was easier than telling my friend i couldn't come to the phone-haha---and for real one of the best parts for me, when i am having an occasion, is it gets my husband to do some things around the house, he doesn't usually do for me---but it's so true, if we wait for our homes to be perfect then we will never have anyone over--thanks annmarie :)

  22. I hate to laugh, but I got a good giggle for you calling Frank out on your blog. I have yet do that to my husband, but I am sure the time is coming.

I agree with Annmarie. I love to throw me some parties, but the stress of making it just right was killing me. I have found that people don't care what you serve or how the decorations look. As long as they don't have to cook or clean up after themselves, they are already in for a good time lol.

    1. haha when you've been with someone as long as we have been together--and i tend to write about my real life, more these days--well it's bound to happen--i can call him out--but it does temper what i can write in reality if it involves others-----i know what ya mean--but i do appreciate it when i go somewhere and i can tell they have put a lot of thought and care into the occasion--especially something like a baby shower----but you can't do it all for sure----thanks theresa :)

Husbands put the craziest spins on things sometimes and then act clueless as to why we're bothered. You're not alone, Lynn.
