hey everyone- hope all have a great day tomorrow--robyn and i just
finished making some of our dishes early- robyn wanted to do it all by
herself- but we managed to do it together- one day it can be all hers-
thought i would talk a little about some "special" thanksgivings-
one
that comes to mind--if you remember my blog about janie, you will
understand why this one was so special--we picked her up to come to our
house, just for the day- we were still planning to adopt her at this
point and some of our family was going to come over to meet her--i
remember it was snowing that morning-- it was one of those snows that
only covered the ground and trees, it was so very beautiful- we had a
fire going all day and it was just a great day- a day that i knew as it
was happening, would long be a very special memory-
totally other
aspect of thanksgiving- there was this one year-- our little boy, tommy
had been in the hospital for a week- we came home the day before
thanksgiving-- i told frank i wasn't up to the full blown day- but he
assured me he would do it all and it would be fine- it wasn't- i ended
up sending him to the "great american steak buffet"- he probably didn't
care too much anyway--colin and kelli meet him there-- i fed the little
kids- and we had lots of left-overs--frank even got the "senior
discount" -which he wasn't old enough for- hahahaha
oh yeah -
there was this one year, i decided to go back to making everything from
scratch (i know) well i had just finished my huge pan of homemade
stuffing- it was cooling on the counter- i left the room for something- i
returned to find "luda" (our dog) eating the stuffing- she had almost
eaten half of it--i just cut out the part where she might have licked it
and served it anyway--funny the kinda same thing happened years before
that- i had made my mother's famous mac and cheese- well it fell in the
floor as i was pulling it out of the oven- i scooped the top layer back
into the pan and called "hugo" (our dog then) in to lick up the rest-
i
have lots of other fond memories, but i gotta go cook some more- happy
cooking and just be thankful i didn't ask ya over my house this year-
too bad i don't have a dog-
Wonderful memories! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your familiy!
ReplyDeletethank you dana--i hope your day is magical :)
DeleteWhen a food mishap happens, it's the recovery that shows a great cook. (i.e., can I still use this?)

DeleteMemories are so good. I remember the year we had so many unexpected guests we brought in the eight foot picnic table from the deck. My, how the men struggled with it through the door.

DeleteHi Lynn,
ReplyDeleteDo hope that you had a wonderful thanksgiving and I enjoyed reading all your memories of thanksgivings over the years.
Laughed when the dog ate the stuffing - we had a dog Heidi, that ate an entire gorgonzola cheese that was sitting on the coffee table waiting for guests to arrive.
Happy weekend
hugs
Carolyn
oh my i hope poor heidi wasn't too constipated from all that good cheese----thanks so much carolyn--we did have a very nice weekend and hugging ya back :)
DeleteOh, my gosh, I can't believe Luda ate a corner of the stuffing! Or, well, I guess I can -- it probably smelled too tempting to resist!
ReplyDeleteLynn, I hope you enjoyed a beautiful holiday.

DeleteOne year my mom set the leftover turkey on a table in the garage and our neighbors dog dragged the turkey away and ate all the leftovers!!! Those darn dogs! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving this year, Laura
ReplyDeleteomgosh--like in that movie "a Christmas story" haha---ours was good, hope you had a nice one too laura :)
Delete"i decided to go back to making everything from scratch (i know)" I'm dying. This was awesome. Thanks, Lynn :)
ReplyDeletehaha thanks meredith---but you know this year i made several things from scratch too, and i have finally decided, the mashed potatoes aren't worth it!---hope you had a great day :)
DeleteAs usual, I tried new recipes, but my timing was off, so we ate later than I had planned, but. . .the turkey slathered in mayo was so tender, will do it again, but the gravy thing in the middle of everything did not work. And I was exhausted, but happy. We always knock ourselves out. . .that's how we show everyone we love them.
ReplyDeletehaha that's right---we love to please, don't we---i need to try that mayo thing--our turkey was a little dry this year, even for me---have a good monday :)
DeleteI guess those dogs just want a little of the celebration too. Mine haven't swiped any Thanksgiving sides, YET, but I did catch my boxer swiping some of my fresh made bread off the counter the other day. Probably made she didn't get any stuffing lol.
ReplyDeletehaha--you are probably right--they deserve something special too, don't they :)
