hey anyone up for another recipe, of sorts---
last week i found myself once again with nothing much in the house to prepare for dinner----that plain spaghetti with jar sauce, didn't sound good, again-
so i said, to myself--what about using those frozen soup vegetables in the freezer and go from there---
here is my creation
vegetable soup
1. one bag of mixed, corn, carrots, peas and green beans, frozen veggies---
2. the rest of the vegetable juice i had in the freg---probably 2 cups or so----and several cups of water
3. lots of seasoning--pepper salt lemon pepper sage garlic salt--all just to taste
4. 1 can of pinto beans--partially drained
5. 2 packages of lipton chicken noodle, dry soup mix-
6. oh i almost forgot--a steamer bag of summer mixed frozen veggies--i cooked them in their bag beforehand
7. okay this maybe a little confusing--you know those oodle of noodle soups--well this is the instant kind in the large package, with it's own dish---the teriyaki flavored--the flavoring packets and all
8. i think that was all---seems like there was something else
9. (anyone that read this before, i am remembering that something else haha----pulled chicken from hot wings-
conclusions
frank really liked it---
with any soup--the leftovers with the noodles, get too mushy for my taste--but was really good the first night
i would next time, add more corn---some butter and potatoes
all in all it was a keeper---happy cooking
Yummy this made me hungry. I love soup in autumn :)
ReplyDeletegood-thanks! that's what i was hoping :)
ReplyDeleteAutumn soup is a tradition in our house. I love to cut up tons of veggies and toss 'em in. First I heat up onions and garlic in a pan and toss those in to simmering chicken broth. Then in goes, just like you, the frozen corn and then carrots, parsnips, celery, a little wine, all kindsa spices. I once put burdock root in the soup because it's so good for the liver but my husband complained. Not a fave! :D
ReplyDeletei don't know about burdock---yours sounds really interesting---i love parsnips---you know, i was thinking how this soup didn't have any onion or celery---that next time too :)
DeleteSoup... I must have skipped lunch. This sounds fabulous. Now I need to go eat something.
ReplyDeletehaha --i know the fall usually makes me more hungry-- but lately i can hardly think of something that appeals to me--thanks crystal :)
DeleteSoup is a big thing around here when the weather gets cooler. I'm a big soup-maker. Usually most anything can end up in it, except the kitchen sink. Mine usually always includes broccoli, too.
ReplyDeleteyou know, ms. a, i almost threw the rest of my frozen broccoli in too--i think now i might use it this week for broccoli cheese soup :)
DeleteMy daughter who owns a restaurant was throwing soup together in our (not her) kitchen one day, from stuff she pulled out of cupboards. When it was good and going she took spaghetti noodles, broke them in about thirds and threw them in. Mighty good something or the other noodle soup.
ReplyDeleteoh, i know, i love to do that with spaghetti noodles, it does work great! how cool your daughter owns a restaurant--you are probably loaded with cool recipes--share please, joanne :)
DeleteI make soups in the winter time too, my speciality is chicken soup and veggie soup. Hubs makes them too. I know a quick French Onion soup, and we also make fish or clam chowder at times. In our rainy climate - it keeps us healthy in the winter. We fight off colds very well.
ReplyDeleteI think noodles get mushy too, Lynn. By chopping the potatoes small for thickening, you don't need noodles. I love to flavor soups with herbs (sage, tarragon, savoury and thyme). Herbs make the soup and the house smell nice.
Now I want soup. . . the power of suggestion.
haha, i know---my power of suggestion is very easily tempted-----mmmm i love herbs, especially tarragon----hey, could you give me your onion soup recipe--i am always interested in an easy recipe----you know, my soup i usually cook a long time but this one took no time at all--thanks d.g. :)
DeleteIt's definitely soup weather! Gotta love veggie soup.
ReplyDeleteyeah, it is kinda soup weather here--but me, i love it all year, ruth :)
DeleteThat sounds like me--not much in the house and scrambling to throw something edible together. I love soup, but the love only extends so far as my younger son, Zane. The other two in the house hate soup. My husband never complains, though. The oldest always has to tell me what he thinks about my concoctions :-)
ReplyDeletenot like soup--haha no it happens----yeah, can you believe i am almost out of all soup---in a pinch i really enjoy even the oodles stuff by itself, susan :)
DeleteWell, your soup had almost the same ingredients as my chicken casserole today. I nearly bought the boil in the bag too.
ReplyDeleteJacket potatoes but no noodles or pinto beans though.
Lot's of black pepper and a touch of cayenne gave it enough of a bite.
It's certainly hot food weather now.
mmm that sounds rather tasty glebe :)
DeleteThat sounds good! Perfect for winter!
ReplyDeleteyeah, thanks sherry--i think i will be making it again when it is colder :)
DeleteLove how you create from what you have on hand. Sounds yummy.
ReplyDeletehaha, thanks susan--i have always loved to create dishes--especially soups stews and casseroles :)
DeleteMmmmm! Sounds yummy Lynn! With winter right on our heels, a good soup recipe is always great to come across! Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteyou're welcome theresa--hope if you try it, you enjoy :)
DeleteMmm...sounds yummy! I also made soup last night. I threw in a bunch of veggies, chicken (the kind you get pre-cooked at the grocery store), and homemade noodles. It was great! Next time I'll add some bullion though. The broth seemed a bit thin.
ReplyDeletei have heard people say they add a little instant potato flakes to thicken or bread---homemade noodles, i am very impressed, joy!
