walking and dreaming

this is re-post from 2009-- "teddy" is big tommy-- today is his real birthday-- and also happens to be my son dustin and adrienne's wedding anniversary --

                                  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i hope this blog doesn't depress anyone--by the way my husband says i really shouldn't use the dashes the way i do--i explained this to my readers in my first blog -so if it bugs you -you can refer to that or just ignore it--sorry.
my family was visiting today with someone we have adopted in our hearts back in 1994--he is at the same institution as "janie" lived-- we try to stroll him in his wheelchair as much as we can when we visit--he seems to enjoy this--between talking to him (he's non-verbal) and walking there is a lot of time to think--
today i was contemplating how i might start something i've always wanted to do (purposely don't want to share it) --it sounded great and "teddy" (not real name) looked approvingly as i chattered away --who knows it could work-- i went on and on about it, until teddy started grunting his annoyance at the subject now-- we walked on -- teddy often inspires me to dream--it's like--how does he seem so happy and content--he doesn't own a house, or an apartment--he doesn't even have his own room--but yet he is happy-- not all of the residents there are happy--but teddy is--
when i see teddy i'm sometimes ashamed of how discontented i can be--life's not fair and life's not easy--yet here is someone for whom nothing comes easy but he smiles and he laughs and he forgives all the little and big injustices he has had to go through --that's one of the reasons he so inspires me but it's not the main reason--i don't know what the main reason is but when i am with him, i feel it--kinda like he might be an angel--i truly believe there are angels among us, no doubt!
most of the stuff i think i'm going to do -i don't --but every once in awhile i find myself actually living out one of my daydreams--i wonder if teddy does.~
  2. My husband and I watched something on the Para-Olympics last night and were discussing how we should never complain about anything ever again. They are just amazing-their will, determination, physical strength, all of it.
    Happy Anniversary to your son and daughter in law!
  3. Thank you for stopping by and visiting my blog.
    I was always told that their are people brought into our lives for a reason, even though that reason may not be clear.
    Hope you have a great day.
  4. Happy birthday to Teddy and happy anniversary to your son/DIL!
    I think it is neat with the time you spent with Teddy and the sounding board he was as you expressed your ideas and thoughts. I'm often humbled when I see others around me who struggle with this and that and still have a smile on their face, when I really how blessed I really am and I don't smile more.
    may today be a good one!
  5. It's hard not to wish for a better, easier life for those in our lives with disabilities. (Somehow "special needs" is not a word that I like, but I cannot think of another). My grandson who has autism struggles every day to do things we take for granted. But these kids are amazing in so many intangible ways.
  7. I love this post. A long time ago a friend talked about how her daughters had been so amazed during a mission trip by how happy one of the boys their age was - he lived in a shack, had barely enough food, no new clothes, not any of the things we all think we "need." But he was truly, radiantly happy. I think maybe they are angels of sorts, because they teach us so much with just their smiles.
  10. Maybe not having to deal with all the headaches of living a materialistic existence has freed his mind, maybe it's just that he gets happy when you pay attention to him, maybe I should stop so you can just enjoy it. 8^D
  24. A great post, Lynn. Reminds me, I work as an assistant nurse, my clients are aged. I have one in particular (she is 75) and has gone through alot (liver failure, breast cancer, has diabetes 2... ALOT. And she is so satisfied withe her life. Infact, when I visit her, I'm so at home (she talks alot :D) Kind of makes me feel guilty when I complain about this and that. I'm sure Teddy daydreams as well. And they do come true once in a while. When you go visit him, or someone else does. :) Those actions, no matter how small or someone might think them insignificance, are the world, the daydream to someone like Teddy. Happy Thursday!
  29. Teddy sounds like an amazing person. I wish we all had a Teddy in our lives to remind us that it's ok to make lemonade out of lemons.
    I wouldn't worry one bit about what people think of the dashes. I read a lot of blogs and we all have our own little quirks. It's what makes each blog unique, I think :)
