"give me a head of hair, long beautiful hair"

something told me i should write about hair today----

robyn just finished touching up my roots with my rich brown color---she does this for me every few weeks---it's not that the color washes out but how fast my roots grow--

over the years i have had mainly long hair---but a few styles that i remember very well--

for those of you who are old enough or like to watch old movies----remember barbra streisand's curly short cut in the late seventies----she had it that way in "a star is born"---by the way--i adored this remake and especially because one of the hottest actors and singers around was her co-star---kris kristofferson-----his hair was longer than hers, i think----

anyway i loved her and had been told through the years how i resembled her---so i had to try the new look---

i think i was in the salon or "beauty parlor" as we called it back then---for at least 5 hours---the style did not look good on me at all and besides that, she had burnt my hair---i ended up going to a beauty school (i had used almost all my money on the high end salon) and had them take the perm out and---they ended up having to cut my hair really short----

back when wigs were the thing to do, i wore a short blonde curly one with a thick scarf tied around it---that was in the summer when i was about 16---i was visiting my sister in biloxi miss and wore it much of the time, it worked out well, with all the humidity, i couldn't do anything with my hair anyway---

i have had red hair----orange hair---blonde and low lights----and just about every shade of browns and blacks there are-----

in my senior year of high school, i did something really brave---i cut my hip length hair to a short shag style--it was just a few weeks before graduation---there is a picture of me in the yearbook, frowning about how the cap for the ceremony, made my new hair stick out--

for the most part, frank cuts and styles my hair---he hates to, but loves the price---he really is pretty good at it---i have even cut my own a couple of times---and it wasn't bad---as a matter of fact i am toying right now with the idea of cutting mine----

speaking of frank---he is very adventurous with his own hair---i will never forget----one saturday night he asked me if i thought he should color his hair a new shade---his hair was sorta brownish blonde at the time----the next day was our church Easter play---i was the director and he was my "gofer"---so i asked him not to do it until maybe the next week----remember i told ya how frank is a little strong-willed----well

i had gone to bed---he comes out of the shower waking me up---he asked--"is this a little bright"----i kid you not, his hair was glowing---i mean he looked like bozo the clown---

i had to pray the next day for God to forgive me for wanting to kill frank while trying to direct the Easter play--

  1. I have always envied girls like you who have the guts to do something 'different' with their hair. I am borrrring when it comes to hair. Just yesterday, I went out on a limb at the salon and had her layer it "just a little bit please".

Love that Frank gave you an Easter surprise and that you had the chance to really take advantage of Resurrection Sunday!!! (by the way, cute story). xo

  2. Very funny hair post, Lynn, I thought you were going to talk about the musical HAIR with that title.

When I had one of those new (at the time)'wash and wear' perms, and cut my waist length hair, the people at work didn't recognize me. It was hilarious as they wondered who the new girl was.

Have a great weekend, Lynn, you always make me smile.

  3. Wildly colored hair is so normal these days. I smile at yellow, green, red, purple hair swinging on the young girls who pass.

  4. I'm not a big fan of hair coloring because 99% of the time it looks really fake. Just be happy with what nature gave you, unless like me nature gave you baldness, which is why I think I don't like to see women experimenting with their hair in weird ways, especially cutting it all off.

  5. It's funny to think back on all the things I've done with my straight, straight hair to try and put "life" into it... and now watching my daughter going through the same thing - why are we never happy with the hair we have? I've finally given up with mine - although, after reading your post I think I may have to do something new with it soon ;-)

  6. Lynn, I just wish I had enough hair to cover my head! It wouldn't matter what color it was! Well, maybe not fushia or purple... Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

  7. My hair is practically all white now, and I've earned every bit of it! It goes to my waist now. My daughter goes from black to blue to green to auburn, but never her own honey blond any more. I wonder what it would be like if this grandmother went green?

  8. i have thought about letting mine go natural too----haha green--i would love to see the green---thanks donna:)

  9. I'm a fan of long hair. I've always had it long too. It was down to my hips before I got pregnant. I gave almost two feet of hair to Locks of Love. My hair grows fast as well. Have a good weekend!

  10. I did the perm, fry, straighten and cut thing, too, in 1978. My hair is a mess and falls out like crazy. I wear it in a ponytail... ALL THE TIME. I was SO sick of it the other night, I washed it, dried it, stuck it in a ponytail, added another elastic band and told my husband to just cut it off above the band! I went from waist length, to shoulder length, but I'm no longer getting tangled up in it at night.

    1. wow---frank did that ponytail cutting thing once on me and i had all kinds of different lengths!! thanks ms. a :)

  11. I definitely need a new style..it has been the same for 28 yrs..my husband likes it so I just leave it this way...maybe he doesn't know what he is missing..but it is just easy this way!!

  12. LOL - I've never had thick hair. My mum had fine hair and my dad's bald so there's not much hope for me. I remember I had a perm once and the rollers got stuck in it and had to be cut out. Thank God we don't have them any more. But I'm sooooo jealous of your lucious locks.

    1. yeah my hair is certainly not as thick as it used to be---thank goodness no more perms--thanks susan :)

  13. I LOVE Kris Kristofferson! Always have, always will! But Barbara? YUCK. And I didn't like that she got to play opposite him in that movie either. LOL I did like her hair though and my aunt put mine up in pin curls that night and I had curls all over my head the next day. It didn't look bad but I didn't like it because I felt like I stuck out in a crowd and I preferred to blend in. Love the part about trying not to kill Frank while directing the Easter play! LOL

  15. Loved the remake of a Star is Born; I'm sure I saw it a dozen times when it first came out all those years ago! I do remember that was a popular hairstyle; I had it for a few years myself but it didn't do me much justice but so easy to take care of, LOL!

Loved your post about hair; so cute to read the changes you had, but the funniest thing was your husband the color of his hair that Easter morn!! I too have fast growing hair with roots that show quickly so I tend to just have let it go gray these days.

    have a great weekend!

  20. I loved this hairy post! I think it's interesting to read about a person's internal journey as manifest by what they do to/with their hair. My favorite bit was the guts it took to effect such a huge change just before graduation!

  24. Regrettably, I had a mullet perm after college. Years later my hair became naturally curly. It's great that your husband and daughter are so good with hair! I love Barbra Streisand, and seeing the chemistry between her and K.K makes me want to watch the movie again. Babs originally wanted to cast Elvis in the role. Julie

  26. I've never wanted curly hair, but years ago I wanted some wave in my hair. I went to get a body wave and the lady gave my kinky curly hair! Never again have I asked for a perm of any sort! I really miss the days of the sun highlighting my hair. My hair grows out so fast that I need to be at the salon every month to get highlights and I don't have time for it. I was just checking out color at the store two days ago. I'm thinking about doing it at home myself...scary. LOL
