no lights before it's time

the darkened houses leave me feeling somewhat warm and cozy inside, like i wonder who lives there and what are they doing---i kinda feel like "john-boy"

while the Christmas music plays, i hum it in my head and try to bring back those memories, no they won't come-

not the way i always imagine they will come---so i think to myself----each year holds another promise-
i can fight against it or submit to it's beckoning---i don't

then there is a glimmer--someone has taken the time to adorn their abode with the shiny stuff---it all runs together for me---like a watercolor painting left in the bathroom with the shower on----i like it better that way--

will this season bring the softness of winter or the bitter chill-----is it only in my power or do i have a thing to say about it---

so i will trust to feel it when it arrives and hope to not grow tired before it's time--

and although the shadows are still there and the pain that feels a little like comfort will undoubtedly arrive from event to event-----

i know full well that come january i will regretfully mourn it's passing

  1. It's the weather, Lynn, it gets to us. Sometimes I want to change the same-old same-old this time of year, but to someone else in the family, that's what they call their tradition.

What we do, we often do for others, so do a little something for yourself.

  3. I usually start the Christmas music and the Christmas movies too early and I am sick of them by the time Christmas actually gets here. I am trying to enjoy Thanksgiving first this year!

  4. I love this time of year. Well, everything except the cold. The lights, the decorations, music, food, family. It all makes me glow. I am a nut that would love to have this time of year celebrated all year long. People tend to seem happier to me during the holidays, and that makes me happy.

  5. Hi Lynn,

Yes, Christmas does seem to creep up so quickly especially when they have all the merchandise in the shops so early.

  8. If it was up to me, I'd hibernate until it's over. I ONLY do it for family and cross my fingers for survival.

  12. Beautiful piece of writing...descriptive; vivid; with an intensity to it that evokes many emotions that I too carry with me at this time of year.

Happy Holidays, let it wash over you, like the fresh falling snow on the branches of the might evergreen - you will stand up to what comes your way, and let it wrap you in a cloak of contentment.

  13. I'm really doing my best to be more festive this holiday season after a lot of seasons I wasn't and just wanted the time over with. However, I'm still having trouble seeing people having their Christmas lights up on the outside of their houses when Thanksgiving still hasn't come; wished they would have waited and celebrate one holiday and then move on to Christmas. I hope you and your family, Lynn, have a Happy Thanksgiving!
