sigh

continuing in the same voice, she talked until she knew they weren't really listening any longer
the bell would be ringing in a few and then she would scurry off, like nothing was wrong
open the door to her tiny apartment, cook, eat, sleep and do it all again

the sun was still shining, kinda like it was taunting her, and she closed the blinds tightly
nothing was going to pull her out of this mood---she deserved to be punished and no one was going to take that away from her

the phone was ringing and she watched it like it could hurt her as it did---when the offending sound ended, she sighed a calming sigh-----she would be alone, no matter how many times the phone flooded her senses with dread

could she manage to go to the same place the next empty morning, would it ever change or would she be destined to repeat this hollow cycle of  doing

and as she closed her eyes, she knew what she must do, but even so, she laid out her yellow out-fit

  2. Hi Lynn...here is the recipe for the pineapple stuffing. It is super easy and delicious, especially with baked ham. I hope its okay to put this in your comments. : )

    1/2 c. butter
    1 c sugar
    4 eggs
1 (20 oz) can crushed pineapple, drained well
5 slices white bread cubed (if the bread is large I use less)

Cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs one at a time. Stir in pineapple and fold in the bread. Turn into a greased 1 1/2 quart casserole and bake uncovered at 350 for 1 hour. (watch it though-my oven cooks fast so I usually do slightly less)...I save the pineapple juice and if there is leftover stuffing I pour a little on before reheating to keep it moist.

  16. This reads like a woman on the verge of changing something in her life. Does she dream of other places, other jobs? She has a sense of duty, if she is selecting her clothes for the next day. Or is it a sense of wanting to be the bright one, not always fading into the wallpaper of sameness?
I like how you play with words, Lynn.

  18. The woman's pain was so tangible, so deep. This reminds me of some teaching days, when I knew the middle-school students cared little for what they needed to learn.
