sometimes people mean what they say and say what they mean---others
have you ever had someone tell you something or say something off handed and laughed--only to say to yourself, when you got home---oooohhhh, that's what they were saying hmmmm
i fancy myself, a person with discernment---seriously, i think, i have that God given gift----my mother had it too---i remember as a child, thinking she was cold and judgmental---i came to realize, that her assessments of most people were very accurate, if not pretty
now i know, as women, sorry, we tend to read into things, and listen a little more eagerly---but i believe people rarely say exactly what they mean and when they do have an agenda, i believe they try to disguise it as nicely as they think they can--and still let you feel the jab---
even the ones that seem to "tell it like it is"---they too are holding back---they don't tell you what has led them to this unpleasant out-burst
so maybe the next time, someone says something and then laughs a "i'm just kidding"---you might just wanna try and think what they may be holding on to---
or if you are a man reading this----just go along your business, cause we know, you don't "read between the lines" and if ya got it, chances are, ya wouldn't give a darn-----sorry, men, just trying to keep it interesting on the a-z challenge----hmmm do ya think that's what i really mean
You share much truth here, Lynn. I've missed your visits! My blog has a new address. Stop by sometimes!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Pam at 2 Encourage
thanks pam---awww i'm sorry---i will stop by now :)
Deletehey pam--i just went to your blog and i wasn't able to follow---not sure what i was doing haha--i clicked "add"---i will try again :)
DeleteLynn, I too cant seem to "follow" you...I think you have the same blogger formatting issues my blog has...just an fyi and now on to better things...
ReplyDeleteI love this post...I believe it is just as if not more important to leave certain things unsaid and uninferred as it is to say what needs to be said. Nuff said.
great advice zoe---hmmmm i am glad you let me know---i haven't heard anyone else say they have had that problem---not a clue what the problem could be, but will try and check it out--thanks again zoe :)
DeleteYou might be right about men Lynn. I can read the truth of what someone is trying to get over, but quite often I'll plead ignorance.
ReplyDeleteNow what is it you're trying to tell me ?
haha that is so true glebe---you gave away y'alls not so well kept secret---you men are always pleading ignorance ;)
DeleteI think women have a special intuition and can suzz out what people really mean.
ReplyDeleteIs Anyone There
haha we really do, most of us anne :)
DeleteGreat post! I agree with Anne. We women do have that special intuition, I think.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy Saturday. ☺
yeah, we're awesome like that dana :)
DeleteI'm a between the lines person, too. My grandmother told me she had a gift for seeing a person's true nature and could tell on first meeting if they were a 'nice' person or not. I've had several instances where I've had that experience and can judge whether to trust that person or not.
ReplyDeleteI call it intuition, Lynn, and remember - it was the women who sometimes had to stay in the cave and get along with those other women, so they had to know who to trust. . .
haha excellent point d.g. :)
DeleteThe few times I have allowed my intuition to slide, I've ended up regretting it!
ReplyDeleteoh yeah, it's not full-proof :)
DeleteI believe that when someone criticizes they are really revealing something about themselves. It's hard not to take it personally, but I think that most of the time, it's about them not about you.
ReplyDeletehmmmm that's very interesting joy!
DeleteMen don't try to read between the lines because they don't usually put anything there. Women do I think and not sure why. Maybe it's our round about way of assertiveness.
ReplyDeletevery good point teresa--we have been trained to be lady's and therefore sometimes feel the need to disguise our truths!
DeleteI guess I read between the lines depending on who I'm dealing with. If I'm around someone who has a tendency to be passive-aggressive, then I'll know that there might be an underlying message that comes with the things they do and say.
ReplyDeleteoh yeah, gotta watch out for those passive-aggressive types!
DeleteMy problem is I read things in that aren't even there.
ReplyDeletethat's what they want ya to think kellie--jk?;)
DeleteI know that women do listen better than men do but sometimes it's kindness that keeps us from saying exactly what we mean.
ReplyDeletevery true susan :)
DeleteI agree. There's an old saying that there's a bit of truth in every joke.
ReplyDeleteMy husband doesn't read between the lines, he listens between the lines. He finds imaginary fluctuations in my voice (only on the phone when he can not see my face) and assumes stuff.
And we all know what happens when you assume stuff...
haha i do juli ;)
DeleteI don't know whether it is a guy thing or a Brit thing but we do have a tendency to tease friends. Some of the things we say would never be said to a stranger without a conflict, yet we happily torment each other.
ReplyDeleteUnless you have a highly developed intuition and are not given to bouts of paranoia reading between the lines can be a problem. It is easy to misinterpret a persons intent.
you are probably right when it comes to men jp :)
Deletewhere did you go jp?
Deletemy blog was my private space where I could vent my spleen and not worry about consequences. Apparently now I am published I have a certain amount of responsibility not to write rubbish anymore! I'm sort of wondering if I did the right thing.
DeleteCurrently I'm trying to make a blend but the fun has gone :(
awww well i will miss you jp---yeah sometimes when the fun is gone, then what's the point--just saying----stay yourself :)
DeleteWoman do seem to read between the lines a lot. Sometimes it does lead to misinterpretations.
ReplyDeleteoh yeah---that's very true sherry :)
Deletelynn, just an fyi . I nominated you for a blog award...
ReplyDeletehttp://rewritten-redo.blogspot.com
thanks zoe :)
DeleteReading between the lines can go either way good or bad at times. Thanks for popping in, Laura
ReplyDeleteso true :)
DeleteSometimes people really do just mean what they say and when I read between the lines I end up complicating it all!
ReplyDeletehaha i know ;)
DeletePeople reading is one of my favorite hobbies. One thing I would add to the reading between the lines/agenda thing is that it seems to me that sometimes people are motivated by things they themselves are not entirely conscious of. Complete self-awareness is probably not possible, but some people seem to lack it altogether. Naturally, I see this lack more in men than in women, but that could be attributed to the fact that, due to my job, I have far more men to study than women. ;)
