unless--oh yes that wonderful little word we can pull out when in doubt
unless it rains, i will definitely be there
unless my dog gets sick, i can come to dinner---unless my hair gets unusually dirty, i can take you to the doctor
it is a great word--it is more sure than until and more vague than maybe---
i know i use it whenever i am caught off guard or can't make up my mind, if i want to say yes or no or just can't think of a good excuse----
unless, makes the other person know---that unless that thing happens or the unexpected emergency occurs, they can surely count on you---they can know, that unless this unforeseen unlikely disaster happens, you will be there for them with bells on
if they ---only knew, that your unless, means the same thing their unless means
"Unless I just don't feel like it when the time comes" perhaps? "I'll try" is sometimes used instead! But there are true "unless"es and "I'll try"s! So I hope people always assume it's the real deal!
ReplyDeletehaha i am sure they do donna :)
Delete**Unless** hmm, is better than if, I think. But perhaps they the same ;)
ReplyDeleteit sounds more honest ;)
DeleteSee, you came up with a good one. :)
ReplyDeleteawww thanks ruth :)
DeleteUnless is a great word to save from committing to something. I'm a terrible 'yes' girl; forever double-booking myself and taking on too much. I need to wean myself off 'yes' with a little bit of 'unless'!

glad i could help angeline ;)
DeleteI need to start using "unless" more. I like the idea of an escape route for YES!
ReplyDeletehaha yep, i know i need one quite often kate :)
DeleteI had never thought about this. The only time I use unless, is, like you used as example, some disaster, illness, etc..
ReplyDeleteHaha..Just thought of something, I will now think of you when I or someone else says "unless"..good way to get into our heads..haha. xo
haha just trying to be creative on this challenge journey--glad to put it in you head sherri ;)
DeleteLOL. You got me with that last line. This word is not actually a huge part of my vocabulary. I'm getting better at "yes", "no", and "yeah right." But as I come to think of it, this would probably be a great alternative to use in my indecisive moments. :P
ReplyDeleteoh it is a great one for people that have a little problem with decisiveness--i'm just here to help crystal ;)
DeleteIve started to change unless to "can I have time to think about that?"
ReplyDeletewow i am impressed--that takes guts zoe ;)
ReplyDeleteThere's always an unless. Muslims add an "InshaAllah" to every promise they make, which means "If God Wills" and that takes care of unexpected things that might come up in the way.
ReplyDeleteoh i like that a lot ghadeer :)
DeleteThis makes me think of the Lorax. Unless was a great U choice. Almost as good as Tuna. ;)
ReplyDeletehaha thanks suze--i try ;)
DeleteI love "unless." I must start using it more. I have a problem being "nice" and saying yes to thinks I really don't have time for. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteyou learn to say no and unless a lot more as you get to be an old lady ;)
DeleteI am such a YES lady. I need to change to being an UNLESS lady to save myself a lot of headaches.
ReplyDeleteyep it's better than aspirin theresa :)
DeleteI always loved using that word. Esp when in arguments!
ReplyDeletehmmm i does work well there too, me :)
Deletehahahaha GREAT post for "U", Lynn!
ReplyDeletehaha thanks dot :)
DeleteUff da, as they say in these parts. Unless is the word at the end of The Lorax. Unless makes me think of what you can do, or what will happen if you don't.

DeleteThe past few months, I find myself using the word no. So, unless Mike makes a miraculous recovery between now and whenever it is you need me to do something for you... the answer is probably no.
ReplyDeleteif anyone should be able to say no--it is you ms a!<3
Delete"Unless" phrases are there to remind us that life is full of curve balls.
ReplyDeletewow, i love that cynthia!
DeleteUnless great word. I had not thought of it in awhile. Really a poem in disguise maybe? Love the thoughts here. :)
