unless

unless--oh yes that wonderful little word we can pull out when in doubt

unless it rains, i will definitely be there

unless my dog gets sick, i can come to dinner---unless my hair gets unusually dirty, i can take you to the doctor

it is a great word--it is more sure than until and more vague than maybe---

i know i use it whenever i am caught off guard or can't make up my mind, if i want to say yes or no or just can't think of a good excuse----

unless, makes the other person know---that unless that thing happens or the unexpected emergency occurs, they can surely count on you---they can know, that unless this unforeseen unlikely disaster happens, you will be there for them with bells on

if they ---only knew, that your unless, means the same thing their unless means

  1. "Unless I just don't feel like it when the time comes" perhaps? "I'll try" is sometimes used instead! But there are true "unless"es and "I'll try"s! So I hope people always assume it's the real deal!

  4. Unless is a great word to save from committing to something. I'm a terrible 'yes' girl; forever double-booking myself and taking on too much. I need to wean myself off 'yes' with a little bit of 'unless'!

  6. I had never thought about this. The only time I use unless, is, like you used as example, some disaster, illness, etc..

Haha..Just thought of something, I will now think of you when I or someone else says "unless"..good way to get into our heads..haha. xo

  7. LOL. You got me with that last line. This word is not actually a huge part of my vocabulary. I'm getting better at "yes", "no", and "yeah right." But as I come to think of it, this would probably be a great alternative to use in my indecisive moments. :P

  10. There's always an unless. Muslims add an "InshaAllah" to every promise they make, which means "If God Wills" and that takes care of unexpected things that might come up in the way.

  12. I love "unless." I must start using it more. I have a problem being "nice" and saying yes to thinks I really don't have time for. Thanks!

  16. Uff da, as they say in these parts. Unless is the word at the end of The Lorax. Unless makes me think of what you can do, or what will happen if you don't.

  22. The past few months, I find myself using the word no. So, unless Mike makes a miraculous recovery between now and whenever it is you need me to do something for you... the answer is probably no.
