tuna

i first feel i have to apologize--for not being too creative with some of my a-z blogs---truth be told, i am kinda struggling to finish this challenge----but the food thing interests me right now, so i hope you will forgive another food post--especially since it wasn't even on my radar to do a food blog---

tuna----i have always loved it and i tell you, i haven't met anyone that loves it more than robyn---whenever we split a sub, i know what kind i will be getting---tuna---tuna---tuna

it is good and in moderation, pretty good for ya---although i am not so sure about all the mayo and pickle--

the way i really enjoy it on a sandwich--is with of course the mayo---onion, celery and lemon----i rarely have that on hand so, it's usually the sweet relish with the mayo-----i prefer it not toasted--and i now only use the tuna packs----oh and i hate those tuna packs that are sandwich ready---to me they have a strange artificial taste-

i used to make this great dish---it was kinda like a chinese style tuna and you would serve it over rice---i think i can remember all the ingredients, and there were quite a few----to the two cans of white tuna you added, a big can of chinese vegetables, chicken bouillon, celery, onions, mushrooms and an extra can of water chestnuts ---i think that was all----it was very good, but ended up tasting like chicken

i like the more traditional tuna casseroles as well---even the tuna helper----but frank used to make the best one ever---he doesn't recall what he put into it but i think it had cream of mushroom soup and i know it had rice----loved it----he would make it quite often when i was pregnant and not feeling too well---it was one of those comforting foods we all like--

if i have ever been tempted to order a tuna steak in a restaurant, i will resist---btw--little piece of advice, i follow---they say--never order any seafood on a monday---chances are it won't be fresh--just left-over from the weekend----

  2. I have to admit, I hate tuna, the smell the texture. I can't eat it in anything. Not sure why but I developed the distaste as a kid and never out grew it.

    2. Oooooh, oooooh, call on me! I know why you don't like it, probably! I love tuna, but I started to hate it and my kids liked it at first and then hated it. They don't have very good tuna any more. When I was a kid, solid white tuna was just that. Solid and white. Nowadays when you open a solid white tuna can it is in little pink pieces that look like floor sweepings. When you drain the can there is about half a can there. I have found the - THE - BEST tuna in the whole wide world. And now I am going below to add a comment about where I found it.

  3. I love tuna casserole, and tuna on crackers, and tuna melts. Recently, my sister and I dropped by to see our Mom around lunch time, and she pulled out our childhood favorite for lunch: an English muffin with tuna and shredded cheese, toasted till the cheese melts. We called it tuna pizza as kids! Still just as good as memory served.

  8. I AM WITH YOU ABOUT THE A-Z. I actually prayed, Dear God, let this thing end before I lose my mind. I told my daughter it was a poor use of a prayer. :) She said, yeah maybe.

Last year was my second year on the challenge and I really struggled to get through it and I don't know why. This year I am doing better but still not quite as good as the first one I did.

  12. I'm not a big tuna fan. I may eat it twice a year. I do love fish and try to stick with smaller fish due to the mercury. I love flounder!
    Happy Tuesday to you!

  15. Yucky tuna? Too much mercury? Your worries are over!!! I found the best tuna. I buy it online. It's a bit more expensive, but the can is solid albacore that is really solid tuna with very little liquid in it. I get Oregon's Choice Gourmet tuna ordered from their website: http://www.oregonschoice.com. I do not sell, own, or care if anyone buys this...just thought I'd pass it along. I love tuna, but the tuna now is terrible and I taste tuna all day after eating it. But this is wonderful, and I can eat tuna again! I like the smell, taste, texture, amount in the can, and very low mercury content - just everything about it! Sorry if this sounds like a paid promotion! It isn't. I just got so excited when I ordered half a case and it was good stuff! And so when I saw that your T word was Tuna, well, I just had to share in case anyone else was a disappointed in the quality of tuna available in the grocery stores now.

  18. I'm not a big fan of tuna salad, but I do like tuna casserole. I never thought about fish not being fresh on Mondays before, but it's probably true in many places.
