my family loves them some greens----whether turnip---mustard--kale---spinach---they are a favorite--
now I don't always use fresh---but I never or at least any longer use frozen to eat alone but frozen spinach works well in some pasta dishes I make---I think that is one of the vegetables that loses something when frozen---but canned are great---
and oh I forgot about Stouffer's frozen spinach soufflé--it's been around for years and it's delish--
and if you've never tried making your own spinach soufflé you should-- it's just basically egg spinach cream and butter-- just don't peek and it turns out great-- very impressive
but the way I like them best is fried----
one night when I realized I didn't have anything for a side dish---I decided to try frying them---kinda like the cabbage thing----I think I had mixed greens that night
I squeezed the water out of them and fried away----adding some margarine and salt and pepper---and garlic salt----they are fantastic this way----
you may like them with just a splash of vinegar or lemon juice---Frank likes hot sauce on them--
I love greens, but no one else does. I invite myself to supper where there are greens served.
ReplyDeleteHaha- I can't imagine someone not liking them/problem I have is I never can seem to make enough :)
ReplyDeleteWhere I was raised we just never ate them! It's still an unexplored corner of my life! I don't want to try to cook them myself, as 1) I'm a lousy cook, and 2) I have no idea how they're supposed to turn out! I want them prepared by an expert when I first give them a try. So... when can I come to dinner? Lol! Fun visiting with you again!
ReplyDeleteHaha now I can't call myself an expert just a greens lover -funny story -once my cousin who lived in Colorado was visiting - my grandmother had made greens-he wouldn't touch them - he said he didn't eat grass!!
ReplyDeleteI grow kale. It is so easy and my daughter loves it.
ReplyDeleteOh how cool-yes kale is great and really popular now!
DeleteI'm one of the very few in my family that isn't a fan of greens, although I love fresh, raw spinach.
ReplyDeleteReally-you know I kinda like greens raw but unless they happen to be in my bagged salad mix -I hardly ever eat them that way :)
ReplyDeleteWe scramble eggs in spinach. It is a good combination.
ReplyDeleteIt is! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI think I need to incorporate more greens into our diet. I do like most greens, including spinach.
ReplyDeletebetty
I think I am going to start having them once or twice a week Betty -they are so good - good for ya-and inexpensive and filling!
DeleteI like greens, but mostly in salads. I have fried kale before with garlic. It was pretty good.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah Susan -garlic makes lots of things even better-and wow all the health benefits they keep finding :)
DeleteI'm eating more green these days, and learning to appreciate them. I have trouble liking Swiss chard though, and it's supposed to be very healthy. Any suggestions on how to fix that one? I think we connected three years ago - or maybe 4 - in my first a-z challenge. :-)
