boil that Cabbage down

cabbage has got to be one of my favorite vegetables----and there are hardly any calories---but ya still gotta watch how much you eat---not only is it lots of water but works other areas too---

now it does smell awful when it's cooking----I thought I knew a secret to overcoming that---maybe y'all know--please share--

I love the stalk part---don't throw it out!!

cook it and cook it some more----add lots of salt and pepper and I now only use some margarine---I used to use bacon grease---

my grandmother Queenie used to fry hers-----it is awesome that way but very rich---

oh and she always put potatoes in hers---I sometimes do and when I do---I just use the can whole potatoes----you cannot tell the difference--

  1. Cabbage and potatoes, we eat them at least once a week. My mother always calls out cabbage, potatoes and cornbread when she is talking about what we could have good for dinner.
Fried in grease sounds good but I don't think we will start that. I don't know if my body could handle it an hour later. lol

  2. Gosh, its too bad my mom is not alive because she would boil cabbage and I don't remember it smelling. She made something called cabbage pie (delicious). Bread dough on the bottom, cooked cabbage that she would season with pepper and I'm not sure what else, mixed with a little butter would go on top of the dough and then there would be a dough on top of that .Bake it in the oven. Yum. Haven't had it in years, but I can vividly remember the taste of it.

  3. I cook tons of cabbage around here, usually with sausage and a little Knorr and of course a cake of cornbread. One of our favorites!

  5. When it "boiled dinner" night, we all danced. Mom cooked it with pieces of ham. And cornbread--don't forget that!

I love the stalk part---don't throw it out!! My dad made sure he was standing at the sink when Mom was cutting up the cabbage.
